Guatemala

The Guatemala project is located in the mountainous village of Sumal Grande, Nebaj, Quiche, Guatemala. With the help of Diego Ramirez, the president of ACCMARI, a partner of EWB in Guatemala, we have developed a partnership with the community that involves designing and constructing a new sanitation system that services the local health clinic and community hall building. The village’s current septic system is over 15 years old and unable to meet the needs of the growing population. The tank requires frequent maintenance, including emptying of the tank every 6 months. Our aim is to design a new system to meet the community’s needs while addressing any health and sanitation risks. Involvement includes weekly meetings, research and design in either Waste Management, Water, or Structural subteams, attending relevant workshops, communicating with experts, and design presentations.
