Project Phase: Implementation
The St. Anne Grace school secondary school is a beautiful and vibrant educational facility for 300+ children in rural Nakifuma, Uganda with whom our team is working to improve their water and latrine facilities. Our NGO is Implicit Effect Admonitor’s Agency (IEAA) whose mission is to empower women, promote community development, and improve the lives of children. So far, they have reached 6 regions in Uganda, and have impacted thousands of Women and Children.
When the Latrine facilities were in a dilapidated state and prone to flooding, they reached out to Engineers Without Borders to help upgrade and improve them. After an assessment trip, it was determined that the best course of action would be to demolish the current structures, implement a borehole and water tower, and construct completely new bathroom facilities for the staff and students.
So far, our team has completed an assessment trip consisting of community outreach and surveying, land surveying, soil testing, and water testing. This Spring, our team will be returning to the community to implement the borehole, perform 3D scans of current and model facilities, perform further soil and water tests, and conduct further interviews to narrow in on Staff and Student preferences.
In 2022, our team traveled to the community for the first time and began diving into latrine designs and water tower designs with the goal of aiding the community to the best of our ability.
